Dr. Serels is certified by the American Board of Urology. He is also board certified in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery.

Dr. Serels graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brandeis University in 1988 with a B.A. in both biology and economics. He then completed his medical degree at New York University School of Medicine in 1992 where he was the recipient of the Samuel Soifer Memorial Award. He completed his urologic residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in New York. While in residency, he studied at both Memorial Sloan Kettering hospital for urologic oncology and at UCLA for urogynecology. He was recognized for his outstanding clinical work during this time by receiving an award from Montefiore Medical Center.

Dr. Serels then joined the Cleveland Clinic Foundation as an attending physician in the department of female urology and voiding dysfunction where he also was fellowship trained in urogynecology. While there, he developed an expertise in female urology, neurourology and voiding dysfunction for both males and females. He has published extensively in all aspects of urology, with an emphasis on urinary incontinence and vaginal vault prolapse.

Dr. Serels has been involved in many innovations in urogynecology, and has received the Scallon award in recognition of these surgical efforts. These innovative procedures have specifically focused on treating stress urinary incontinence with "sling" procedures as well as using Botox in the bladder to treat over-activity. He regularly lectures to physicians both nationally and internationally on topics pertaining to urinary problems and vaginal vault prolapse.

In July 1999, Dr. Serels joined Urology Associates of Norwalk. When he joined the Urology Associates of Norwalk, he founded the Bladder Control Center of Norwalk which offers a full range of diagnostic and treatment modalities related to bladder control, urinary incontinence, and pelvic prolapse.

Dr. Serels is Chief of Urogynecology at Norwalk Hospital. In 2009, he was named to the list of top doctors in the state of Connecticut.
