Prior to Surgery Bowel Instructions

For your upcoming surgery the following prep must be followed:

• Day before surgery a light diet, preferably clear liquids.
• The night before surgery please take 1/2 bottle of magnesium citrate
  • If no results within an hour, take remaining 1/2 of bottle
  • magnesium citrate can be found in any drug store over the counter

After ESWL Follow Up Instructions

Please call our office at 203-853-4200 Option #2 after your ESWL procedure to make a 2-3 week follow-up appointment (the doctor will tell you when to follow up).

When making appointment please state which doctor you prefer to follow-up with - the doctor who did the procedure or the doctor you regularly see here.

Please take one of the attached order forms to either:

• Advanced Radiology (Download Order Form)

2 – 3 days before your scheduled follow-up appointment

If they give you a disc of the x-ray please bring with you day of your follow-up appointment (we do not need them prior to appointment).

Post Op Expectations

First 24 Hours	Mild nausea/vomiting Blood in urine Pain on your side Mild to moderate discomfort when urinating from passing stone particles Pain or bruising at IV site Mild fever less than 101	DO rest and avoid heavy lifting or strenuous exercise DO strain your urine and save the stone particles. DO NOT drive a car DO NOT operate hazardous machinery DO NOT be left alone without adult assistance. DO NOT make important personal or Legal decisions	Begin with clear liquids If not nauseated, progress to normal diet. Drink 8, 6oz. glasses of water daily. No alcoholic beverages.	Continue your everyday medications. Resume contraindicated medications after 72 hours only if you have no blood in your urine. Take prescribed pain medication and/or Antibiotics as ordered. If you do not obtain adequate pain relief, please call your Urologist.
24-48 Hours	Mild nausea/vomiting Mild fever less than 101 Pink tinged urine Mild to moderate discomfort when urinating from passing stone particles	Walk as tolerated Strain your urine and save the stone particles.	Normal Diet Drink 8, 6oz. glasses of water daily.	Continue to take prescribed Medications. If you do not obtain adequate pain relief, please call your Urologist.
48-72 Hours	Pink tinged to clear urine Mild to moderate discomfort when urinating from passing stone particles	Regular activity as tolerated Strain your urine and save the stone particles.	Normal Diet Drink 8, 6oz. glasses of water daily.
